Studio Polaroids Collection 001
Variety of Polaroids shot in the studio to "test" models who came in looking for work. For many of these models this was the very first time they ever got naked on camera. We photographed some of these models many times and some were never photographed again and these represent the only images of them naked anywhere. This is the first gallery of many.
Photographer Notes:
We shot these in our various studios over the years. At this time there was no such thing as a "digital camera" so this was the only way to see what the models looked like on film and allow us to send samples to the clients which were Men's Magazines. Every model that came into the studio looking for work had to "test". There were few jobs back then and even fewer photographers. Shoots cost many thousands of dollars to produce and were generally approved in advance based on these test shots. There were less than 100 photographers shooting naked women professionally worldwide and really only about 20 that were really good. I worked for J. Stephen Hicks back then and he was one of the top five.
We had copy machines back then so we would make B&W copies of the polys and mail them to our clients (who were mostly in NYC or London) . If we needed a rush answer we would actually Fed-Ex the original Polys to the clients. We did this all the time! There are many types of Polaroids and these are SPECTRA. The Polaroid Spectra camera and film was our weapon of choice for test shots because it was relatively small and had a decent lens. You could manually select your exposure, sort of, and it generally got good results. We used a different type of Polaroid Camera on set to get our exposure test shots and I will go into that process more in detail in the Galleries where I post those images.
